Hank plays
My
previous trip to Eastbourne had been exactly 12 months ago when Id been to see
Warren Bennett & Dick Plant at the Winter Gardens... it was nice to be back again
although this time at The Congress Theatre next door.
So
to the concert which was of a very high standard and I certainly wasnt
disappointed.. Although on the front row we were set back a way on account of the
orchestra pit, which had been covered for this gig. But I still had a great view and was
able to appreciate the light show from this position as well... which, I have to say is
pretty spectacular this year. a bit better from the years of when The Shadows first played
concerts where Bruce Welch once famously remarked... ".... the lights were either on
or off...."!!
The
music was the same as at the other concerts and I have really enjoyed the acoustic stuff
on this tour & I do hope Hank develops the acoustic stuff further and, on future
recordings ventures even further back into his musical roots.... I know I have said it
before but to watch him play this stuff is truly awesome - he makes playing look so easy
when in fact we all know that it certainly is not!!
Ive
really liked Fergus Gerrand this tour as well, extremely skilled job being a drummer,
Ive liked his sound and indeed his style. Hope if Hank does a further concert or two
in the future we see Fergus again...
Lovely
to see Ben Marvin who grows in stature every time I see him. With a sound and indeed a
great style all of his own. Watch this young man. Hes going to be big! Hank is
obviously very proud of his talented son. Check out Bens new web site for all the
news about Bens new band...
In conclusion Ive had a really fantastic time this tour, visited 11 concerts in all, listened to some wonderful music from Hank and his band. Thanks guys for giving me some lovely hours of musical pleasure. its been great to meet Hank and have a new picture taken for 2002; Warren - always a pleasure to see you, even I have to keep on my toes all the time!, great to say hello to Ben and Fergus as well, great to meet with JJ as well.. Very nice man.. All in all its been such fun... Thanks very much indeed.
